WOMEN’S BOXING GEAR: WHAT DO FEMALE BOXERS REALLY NEED?

Boxing is for everyone. Whether you’re stepping into a boxing gym for the first time, training for fitness or preparing to spar, having the right equipment can make your sessions more comfortable and help you train with confidence.

But with so many gloves, wraps, shoes and protective accessories available, knowing what you actually need can be confusing.

At The Ring Pro Shop in Bali, we stock boxing equipment from brands including Winning, Rival, Fairtex, Twins Special, Fly and Nike.

Here’s what every female boxer should know before building her boxing kit.

1. BOXING GLOVES: YOUR FIRST ESSENTIAL

Boxing gloves are one of the first pieces of equipment to consider. The right pair depends on your training, hand fit, glove weight and whether you’re working on bags, pads or sparring.

What to look for:

  • A secure, comfortable fit around your hands and wrists.

  • Enough room for your hand wraps.

  • A glove weight appropriate for your training and gym requirements.

  • Suitable padding and a fastening system you can manage comfortably.

Don’t choose gloves based on colour or appearance alone. Women don’t automatically need a particular glove size or weight; hand size, fit and training purpose matter more.

Options at The Ring Pro Shop:

  • Twins Special BGL1 Lace-Up — IDR 1,900,000

  • Fairtex BGL7 Lace-Up — IDR 2,000,000–2,300,000

  • Rival RS11V Evolution Velcro — IDR 4,250,000–4,650,000

  • Fly Superlaces X — IDR 5,500,000

  • Winning MS Classic Colour Velcro — IDR 11,300,000–17,000,000

Prices may vary by size and colour.

2. HAND WRAPS: DON’T SKIP THEM

Hand wraps are an important part of your boxing kit. They help support the hands and wrists beneath your gloves and provide an additional layer between your skin and the glove lining.

Before buying, consider the length, material, stretch and how comfortably the wraps fit beneath your gloves.

Available at The Ring Pro Shop:

  • SVRG — IDR 200,000

  • Rival — IDR 260,000

  • The Ring — IDR 310,000

  • Fly Monogram 4.5m — IDR 480,000

  • Winning 5m — IDR 650,000

Learn how to wrap your hands correctly and wash your wraps regularly to keep them fresh.

3. BOXING SHOES: BUILT FOR MOVEMENT

Boxing involves constant movement, pivots and changes of direction. Boxing shoes are designed for ring movement and differ from ordinary running shoes.

When choosing a pair, pay attention to fit, traction, flexibility and ankle coverage. The best option should feel secure without pinching your feet or restricting comfortable movement.

Explore these options:

  • Kangrui — IDR 1,500,000–1,650,000

  • Nike Machomai 2 — IDR 3,120,000

  • Nike Machomai 3 — IDR 3,380,000–3,950,000

  • Nike Hyper KO 2 — IDR 4,970,000–5,200,000

  • Nike Hyper KO 3 — IDR 5,600,000–6,100,000

  • Winning RS-300 — IDR 9,050,000–9,800,000

Try shoes on whenever possible, especially if you have narrow or wide feet. A secure fit matters more than choosing a particular brand.

4. PROTECTIVE GEAR: TRAIN SMART

As you progress into partner drills and sparring, additional protective equipment becomes important. Follow your coach’s guidance and your gym’s requirements.

Mouthguard

A mouthguard helps protect your teeth and soft tissues from impact.

  • Fairtex — IDR 430,000

  • Winning — IDR 750,000

Choose a mouthguard that fits securely and allows comfortable breathing. Replace it when damaged or when it no longer fits properly.

Headguard

A headguard provides padding and can help protect against cuts and superficial injuries. It does not eliminate concussion or brain-injury risk.

Available options include:

  • Twins HGL3 — IDR 2,200,000

  • Fairtex HG4 Full Protector — IDR 2,300,000

  • Twins HGL10 Face Saver — IDR 4,050,000

  • Fly Knight X — IDR 4,250,000–4,350,000

  • Winning FG-2900 Cheek Protector — IDR 10,650,000–14,100,000

Choose based on fit, visibility, coverage and your gym’s requirements.

Groin guard

Groin protection may be required or recommended for sparring, depending on your training and gym rules. Choose a design that fits securely and allows comfortable movement.

Options at The Ring Pro Shop include:

  • Fairtex — IDR 1,750,000

  • Cleto Reyes — IDR 5,650,000

  • Winning — IDR 11,700,000

5. WHAT SHOULD WOMEN WEAR TO BOXING CLASS?

You don’t need a completely new wardrobe to start boxing. Comfort and freedom of movement should come first.

Consider wearing:

  • A supportive sports bra that feels secure during movement.

  • Breathable athletic tops.

  • Comfortable training shorts or leggings.

  • Boxing shoes or suitable training footwear, depending on the session.

  • Hand wraps and gloves when required.

Choose clothing that stays in place when you punch, pivot and move. You should be able to focus on your training rather than constantly adjusting your outfit.

Looking for training apparel?

Explore The Ring clothing range, including:

  • Boxing Athlete Dry Fit T-shirt — IDR 275,000

  • The Ring T-shirt — IDR 325,000

  • The Ring Shorts — IDR 385,000

  • Performance Dry-Fit Training Set — IDR 599,000

  • Performance Dry-Fit Tracksuit Set — IDR 699,000

Availability of styles, colours and sizes may vary.

6. HOW MUCH DOES A WOMEN’S BOXING KIT COST?

You don’t need to buy everything at once. Start with the equipment needed for your current training and build your kit as you progress.

BOXING GEAR & STARTING PRICES

Boxing gloves: From IDR 1,900,000

Hand wraps: From IDR 200,000

Boxing shoes: From IDR 1,500,000

Mouthguard: From IDR 430,000

Headguard: From IDR 2,200,000

For example, gloves, hand wraps and boxing shoes from the entry-priced options listed above would total IDR 3,600,000, before any additional protective equipment or apparel.

Your actual budget depends on the products you choose and what your gym provides. If you’re a beginner, ask your coach which items you need to purchase before your first session.

7. BEGINNER OR EXPERIENCED BOXER: DOES YOUR GEAR CHANGE?

If you’re a beginner

Focus on comfortable gloves, hand wraps and appropriate training footwear. Ask your gym whether equipment is available to borrow and what you should bring.

If you train regularly

You may want to invest in your own gloves and shoes, additional hand wraps and suitable equipment for your specific sessions.

If you spar

Follow your coach’s guidance on gloves, mouthguards, headguards and any other required protection. Never assume that equipment alone makes sparring risk-free.
